Phil spent the formative years of his career with the Commercial Union (now Aviva) before joining Prudential in 1989 as a new business underwriter in the London Underwriting Centre. Following Prudential’s decision to withdraw from the general insurance market in 1992, Phil subsequently joined the Economic as the Branch Underwriter in their West End Property Owners operation. He then joined up with Ian and Andrew in the City as a result of Peter Cullum’s MBO of Economic in 1994. Following Hiscox’s purchase of Economic in 1996, the team eventually moved to Towergate Underwriting Commercial Property in 1999 to set up a MGA, before the business was purchased in 2013 by independent investors and re-branded European Property Underwriting Limited.
